Greetings All,
As you can see, I have removed the YouTube video
from the top of the posts. You can still access
our YouTube page by clicking the link to the right
of this page in the Links column.
I have put a coupon finder "gadget" at the top of the post.
There you will find coupons, sales, and deals on a wide range
of products from food to gas.
I think this will be a very useful addition to our blog.
Most of the sales and deals will be relevant to your location
based on your IP address. It happens automatically.
This site is fun to browse around, and the sites should allow
for printing out the coupons.
If you will look to the right of this page, in the Links column,
right under the Yearbook image, you will see a link and search
box to "123greetings eCard Search".
Here you can create eGreeting Cards for all occassions.
You can click the link or type in the occassion in the search box.
Some of the cards are animated and some are static. You don't have
to join anything, and it's all free. These gadgets will open in a
new window.
Coming next year I hope to finish building a toolbar for the blog.
You can install it on your computer and be able to access our blog,
internet radio, play games, chat, and other stuff without having to
leave the page you are on. Of course, it will be safe and virus free.
Let me know if you experience any problems with any of the gadgets
by leaving a comment.
Happy Holidays

When Are WE Going to Get Over It?

When Are WE Going to Get Over It?
For much of the last forty years, ever since America
"fixed" its race problem in the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts,
we white people have been impatient with African Americans
who continued to blame race for their difficulties.
Often we have heard whites ask, "When are African Americans
finally going to get over it? Now I want to ask
"When are we White Americans going to get over our ridiculous
obsession with skin color?
Recent reports that "Election Spurs 'Hundreds' of Race Threats, Crimes"
should frighten and infuriate every one of us.
Having grown up in "Bombingham," Alabama in the 1960s,
I remember overhearing an avalanche of comments about what
many white classmates and their parents wanted to do to John and
Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Eventually, as you may recall, in all three cases, someone decided to
do more than "talk the talk." Since our recent presidential election,
to our eternal shame we are once again hearing the same reprehensible
talk I remember from my boyhood.
We white people have controlled political life in the disunited
colonies and United States for some 400 years on this continent.
Conservative whites have been in power 28 of the last 40 years.
Even during the eight Clinton years, conservatives in Congress
blocked most of his agenda and pulled him to the right.
Yet never in that period did I read any headlines suggesting that
anyone was calling for the assassinations of presidents Nixon,
Ford, Reagan, or either of the Bushes.
Criticize them, yes. Call for their impeachment, perhaps.
But there were no bounties on their heads. And even when
someone did try to kill Ronald Reagan, the perpetrator was
non-political mental case who wanted merely to impress
Jody Foster.
But elect a liberal who happens to be black and we're back
in the sixties again. At this point in our history,
we should be proud that we've proven what conservatives are
always saying-that in America anything is possible,
EVEN electing a black man as president.
But instead we now hear that schoolchildren from Maine to
California are talking about wanting to "assassinate Obama."
Fighting the urge to throw up, I can only ask, "How long?"
How long before we white people realize we can't make our nation,
much less the whole world, look like us?
How long until we white people can-once and for all-get over
this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin color?
How long until we white people get over the demonic conviction
that white skin makes us superior?
How long before we white people get over our bitter resentments
about being demoted to the status of equality with non-whites?
How long before we get over our expectations that we should be
at the head of the line merely because of our white skin?
How long until we white people end our silence and call out our
peers when they share the latest racist jokes in the privacy of
our white-only conversations?
I believe in free speech, but how long until we white people
start making racist loudmouths as socially uncomfortable as
we do flag burners?
How long until we white people will stop insisting that blacks
exercise personal responsibility, build strong families, educate
themselves enough to edit the Harvard Law Review, and work hard
enough to become President of the United States, only to threaten
to assassinate them when they do?
How long before we starting "living out the true meaning" of our creeds,
both civil and religious, that all men and women are created equal
and that "red and yellow, black and white" all are precious in
God's sight?
Until this past November 4, I didn't believe this country would ever
elect an African American to the presidency. I still don't be lieve
I'll live long enough to see us white people get over our racism
problem. But here's my three-point plan:
First, everyday that Barack Obama lives in the White House that Black
Slaves Built I'm going to pray that God (and the Secret Service) will
protect him and his family from us white people.
Second, I'm going to report to the FBI any white person I overhear saying,
in seriousness or in jest, anything of a threatening nature about
President Obama.
Third, I'm going to pray to live long enough to see America surprise
the world once again, when white people can "in spirit and in truth"
sing of our damnable color prejudice, "We HAVE overcome."

The Economy/Blog Changes
Greetings Class,
I hope all of you are well in these trying economic
times. At the end of my post for June 11, 2008 I
referred you to this link:
When Bad Is Good-The Doomed Dollar
and stated "If you think things are rough now,
just wait."
Look at what has happened since then. Things
may get even worse. I have come across
information (rumor) that if you have gold, silver or
platinum in a safe deposit box in a bank, you should
consider taking it out now because you will be denied
access to those items when the U.S. economy sinks even lower.
The rumor is when you go to access your safe
deposit box, not only will you be accompanied by a
bank official, but also a representative of
Homeland Security who will confiscate or deny
your access to those precious metals.
Those classmates who are versed in banking and
finance may want to verify the truth or fallacy of
those statements. If you can, please make a
comment on this post or email the class with your
information.
Check out these links for more info.
Cost, abuse, and danger of the dollar
John F. Kennedy vs The Federal Reserve
Now that I've cheered you up, let's move on.
It was decided to fore go any further meetings
until January 2009. However, please give your
thoughts on the idea of a Holiday (Christmas)
Party sometime in December. Preferrably before
the week of the 25th.
I am exploring the idea of changing the look of our blog.
Mainly to replace the oppressive maroon banner with
something lighter.
Already in place are a Google Search box at the top of
each post for your convenience, and a Google Ad box.
Clicking on those links will take you away from our blog
so click your back button to return.
I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you feel
would be useful on our blog.

Get Out And Vote Now!
Greetings BTW Class of 1968,
Once again, 40 years later, we are going to
witness, be apart of and, or make history.
This time we have the opportunity to change, or
continue the way our country has been led since
it's inception.
Whether you are for one party or the other, you
must make your voice heard by voting. When you
cast your vote you earn the right to complain or
criticize the ways and actions of the elected.
When you do not vote, you only have the right to remain
silent. Had you voted the outcome may have been as you wished.
This election, regardless of it's outcome, will be
historic. You should resolve to be a part of history
by casting your vote.
There should be no reason for anyone not to vote.
Check with your local Voter Registration Office in
your state on how you may cast your vote earlier
than November 4th.
Here, in Norfolk,Va., you may use the Absentee
Voting option by casting your vote at the Voter
Registrar's office located on the 8th floor of the
City Hall building.
Park at the garage on Union St.or any other city
parking facility and bring your parking ticket to
the Registrar's office for validation.
You do not need to provide proof of your reason
for using the absentee ballot, but you must state
why you cannot vote on Nov.4th. For example,
doctor's appointment, medical reason, out of the
city, etc.
The registrar personnel are very considerate and
respectful, you will not be interrogated, so just go
vote.
You may also vote early at your local Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles Office (DMV).
According to Norfolk City Councilman Paul Riddick,
you may be better off using your local Voter
Registration Office.
In Virginia you may cast your vote using the
absentee ballot by mail until October 28th. In
person until November 1st.
I encourage you to take advantage of the option
to vote early as the expected high voter turnout
may affect your individually planned "window of
opportunity" to vote on November 4th.
You will not be the only one who planned to vote
on the way to work, during lunch, or on the way
home from work, but before, or after, picking up
the kids or grand kids.
No matter how you plan to vote, just vote.
Here in Virginia you cannot wear T-shirts, ballcaps,
buttons, etc. that promote a candidate or party.
You will be turned away from the polls unless you
cover or remove those items.
Most people have already decided how they will
vote when they get to the polls anyway so
wearing such gear is a "fait accompli".
Comments, questions and criticisms are appreciated.

THIS IS THE BIG DAY BEFORE THE BIG DAY!
It's 11:00 am and people are already in town for our BIG weekend.
We are going to have a BALL!
If you haven't made up your mind, then decide in favor of joining us.
Don't wake up Sunday wishing you had gone.
Tonite, Friday, we will be at the Airport Hilton, Room 331
for the Meet & Greet from 5:00pm until.
So you can work a full day and still have time to party.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the cookout will be at Barraud Park from

There are 3 tennis and 3 basketball courts, 1 horseshoe pitch,
and 1 baseball diamond. The picnic shelter we are using has about

If you have a CD with some of your favorite tunes bring a COPY.
We will have a DJ but who knows what he will play.
Come Join Us!

4 Days To Go. Maybe The Last Time.
Greetings All,
Just 4 days to go til our reunion. If you are still undecided you can still come and pay at the door. About 70 people have committed to attend. That is a great response.
The best route to the cookout at Barraud Park is Tidewater Drive to Vista St. That would put you right where our activities will be. You may want to bring a couple of folding chairs as seating may be limited.
The Hospitality Suite at the Airport Hilton will be in room 331, and the
dinner/dance will be in Ballrooms C & D.
Please check your spam folder in your email program if you have not been receiving the class's emails. Add BTW68@aol.com and btwclassof68blog@gmail.com to your safe senders list so the mail can get through.
If you have chosen not to stay at the Airport Hilton there is a Holiday Inn Select beside it and there is the Lake Wright Executive Center next to that. All of them front on Military Hwy.
The next nearest accomodations is the Ramada at the intersection of Northhampton Blvd & Military Hwy. There is a LaQuinta Inn across from the Ramada where the old Yings Chinese restaurant used to be.
Hope to see you soon.

Disc-O-Ten, Tell Us Your Favorite Oldies
I am sure you all remember the Disc-O-Ten t.v.show from our youth.
I and reps.from many other schools have sought to acquire a copy
of our class' appeareance on the show for presentation at our
respective reunions or other functions.
Below is a response from Gene Loving(WGH)to my inquiry about
obtaining a copy for our reunion. As you may recall he,
along with Dick Lamb, hosted Disc-O Ten.
Edward, sounds like you are putting a lot of work into the reunion,
trying to make it special for your former classmates and friends.
I would love to direct you to a copy of any Disc-O-Ten show,
but they have all faded away.
In those days the tape machines were giant,
the tape was 2 ins wide and a reel of tape weighed about 20 pounds.
WAVY did not copy any of the few shows they had once the
personal size recorders appeared.
Someone told me they have a small clip that they played on air at
a WAVY 50th anniversary show but that is all I know about.
You could try contacting WAVY. Have a fun event. regards, gene
Mr.Loving is currently CEO of Max Media LLC which acquires, builds and
operates television and radio stations throughout the United States.
That he took the time to respond to our request in less than 24 hrs was,
to me, quite impressive.
That clip he mentioned that WAVY showed at it's anniversary is highly
unlikely to be the show we were on.
So,class, you can help make our reunion in August a success by suggesting songs from 1965 to 1970 that you would like to hear played at the event. Click the comments link at the end of this post and leave the name of the songs and the artists. If you cant remember the artist, that's o.k.
Also, if by chance you have an old cassette of a DJ's radio broadcast from that era it would lend a bit of nostalgia that would go over quite well. You will be given credit for your contribution.
Credit. Not a check!
Contact the class at btwclassof68blog@gmail.com to make arrangements.
Here is a link to a very interesting article regarding the economy,
and why things are the way they are.

Last Minute Tax Tips
THINKING ABOUT GETTING THE AUTOMATIC
6-MONTH TAX FILING DEADLINE EXTENSION?
Filing a Form 4868 to extend your tax filing deadline
for 6 months is not a big deal. The IRS expects to receive
10.3 million extension requests, and all of those
taxpayers will have their deadline automatically
extended to Oct. 15.
Oct. 15 is not only the final due-date for filing returns,
it is also the last date on which a return can be filed
that will get you your "Economic Stimulus payment."
If you file earlier, you will get your payment sooner.
If you file after Oct. 15, you lose out.
An extension of time to file is NOT an extension of time
to pay taxes you owe. But...
WHAT IF YOU CAN'T PAY TAXES YOU OWE BY APRIL 15?
Taxpayers who owe but can't pay in full, have
several options available to them.
Taxpayers should file their return on time,
pay as much as they can with your return,
and visit www.IRS.gov
or file Form 9465 (Installment Agreement Request)
if you need to request a payment agreement.
If you are filing a "paper tax return", recommended
(vs. electronic filing) be sure to attach Form 9465
to the FRONT of your return.
Though interest (currently at the rate of 6
percent per year) and late-payment penalties
(normally 1/2 of 1 percent per month) apply
to any tax paid after the April 15 deadline,
you can limit these charges by paying as
quickly as possible.
In addition, by filing your tax return on time,
even without full payment, a you will avoid
the much larger 5-percent-per-month late-filing
penalty.
A short-term extension gives a taxpayer up to
120 days to pay. No fee is charged, but the
late-payment penalty plus interest will apply.
A monthly payment plan or installment agreement
gives a taxpayer more time to pay, and, although
interest still applies, the late-payment penalty is
cut in half for any month an installment agreement
is in effect. This reduced rate of 1/4 of 1 percent
per month is ONLY available IF the tax return was
filed ON TIME.
A user fee will also be charged if the installment
agreement is approved. The fee (normally $105) will
be reduced to $52, if you agree to make monthly
payments electronically through electronic funds
withdrawal.
DID YOU OVERPAY YOUR TAXES? ...AGAIN?
So far, some 87-million taxpayers have filed
their 2007 Tax Returns and 70-million of them
(80%!) received refunds. AND the SIZE of the
refund averaged $2,761.00.
Why?
It's not because the IRS got religion in April!
It's because 80% of all taxpayers overpaid their
taxes all year long, to the tune of an extra,
overpaid $200.00+ every month, for 12 consecutive
months.
Collectively, we gave Uncle Sam a $140-Billion
interest-free loan!
Now, 15 months later, Uncle Sam gives your
overpaid taxes back to you -- without paying
you any interest at all for the loan - and
most taxpayers smile and say "thank you" to
their tax preparer or to TurboTax, thinking
it is tax pro cleverness or smart technology
that got them a good deal.
No, it is their own lack of knowledge that
kept them from having another $200/month to
use for necessary living expenses.
Any taxpayer has the right to change the amount
of taxes being withheld from his/her paycheck,
any time his/her tax situation changes.
I found these step-by- step instructions for making
that change as well as many other Tax Tips for
Home Based Business Owners in:
It's How Much You KEEP, That Counts!
Not how much you Make"
-- said to be the only 'plain English' guide to
home-business tax breaks authorized by Congress.
It comes with an amazing author-backed guarantee:
"It will introduce you to new, additional tax
deductions worth at least 100-times what you paid,
or your money back - at any time, in any condition,
for a FULL YEAR." I have found it to be very useful.

Two Horses
Two Horses
Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse.
But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice
something quite amazing....
Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind.
His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made
a good home for him. This alone is amazing.
If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell.
Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it
comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell.
It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can
follow.
As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see that the
horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and
that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk
to where the otherhorse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.
When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each
evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the
blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.
Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away
just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or
challenges.
He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us
when we are in need.
Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing
bell of those who God places in our lives.
Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....
Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you
know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours. And remember...
be kinder than necessary-everyone you meet is fighting some kind
of battle.
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly....
Leave the rest to God

Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you
know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours. And remember...
be kinder than necessary-everyone you meet is fighting some kind
of battle.
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly....
Leave the rest to God

Info On The Free Google Pack
Greetings All,
This will be a long post because it gives info on 13 FREE
software downloads that you may find useful. Some of you
may have some of the components in this package.
And some of these will duplicate features you already have
in other programs on your computer.
I should have given you this info a long time ago, but since
I have had some inquiries about the photo album and slide
show on our blog, now is a good time.
As you may have discovered, the slideshow and photo album is
a feature of Google's Picassa Photo album. Which, in turn,
is a part of Google Pack.
Google Pack is a collection of 13 free, very useful software
programs from Google and other companies.
The various software programs enable the user to browse the
web faster, remove spyware and viruses, organize your photos,
and much more.
You can download and install the entire Google Pack, or select
only those programs you want with just a few clicks.
Google Pack also includes Google Updater which keeps the Google
Pack software up-to-date and advises you of new programs as
they become available.
My personal favorite by far is Google Earth
(the free version, of course).
This program enables the user to view any location on the
earth using satellite imaging.
Just type in a location and click and Google Earth takes you
there as if you were flying. You can zoom in on a specific
address or an area of interest.
What you will see are actual satellite photos of the location.
Google Earth is great for viewing driving directions, trip
planning, finding a business, or house or apartment hunting.
I used Google Earth to familiarize myself with the Waldorf-
Brandywine, Md. area for Rufus Jackson's cookout last summer.
The "layering" feature allows you to view available roads,
lodging, restaurants, and schools, etc. in your area of
interest.
Google Earth is truly an "armchair adventurer's" dream.
See the all the exotic places on earth without leaving your P.C.
Check out the Pyramids of Giza, Jerusalem, the Temple of
Baalbek, Machu Pichu,Tiwanaku (Tiahuanacu), and other ancient
structures, or geographical features.
Upgrades are are available with even more powerful features
for a reasonable price. It's also MAC compatible.
If you have a dial up internet connection you may experience
slow performance. Also, the better your computer's graphics
card, the better the images will appear.
I should mention here that Microsoft has a similar program
called Virtual Earth which can be accessed through Windows Live
Search.
For your convienience, I am placing a link to Google Pack in the
links column to the right of the page.
Other programs in the Google Pack are:
Google Desktop - Desktop companion
It"s not just a screen full of folders and icons. Not only can
you quickly search your computer for files, emails, and web
history, you can view news, photos and more anywhere on your
desktop.
Google Desktop comes with Sidebar where you can get all of your
personalized information in one place.
Google Desktop is fully integrated with most of Google just add
Google Gadgets to customize your desktop and Sidebar to work the
way you want it to.
Google Desktop will even suggest new gadgets you can use based on
topics you are most interested in.
A Google Gadget is a software code that allows you to customize
your desktop, sidebar, or Google Homepage. There are gadgets for
calendars, favorite videos and movies, and adding and searching
web clips, and much more.

share all the photos and pictures on your computer in seconds.

images on your computer and automatically sorts them by date.
Picasa will organize your entire collection while you watch.
Move and re-name a picture or a group of pictures in seconds
by simply dragging and dropping pictures from one folder in
Picasa to another.
Then make a label for your photo or groups to make viewing
and sharing easier, and for making slide shows, movies,or
for emailing.
You can even give your photos a gold star rating to easily
find your favorites, and you can password protect those photos
you want to keep private.
Google Pack Screensaver - Photo screensaver
After you have organized your photos from your personal
collection with Picassa, load them into the Google Pack
